I do not wish “my time” such as this. It is tragic for American scientists, it is bad for science, it is sad for the world.

Science has always been “by the world, of the world, for the world”.

In WWI, George Bernard Shaw called for both sides to stop killing future scientists and artists on the other side.

In WWII, British and American scientists tried to rescue scientists from the other side, not because they wanted to benefit their countries, but for helping to preserve more scientists.

If, God forbids, American scientists do face eminent persecution or other disasters, of course I (and many scientists in China and Europe) will try our best to reach out and chip in our efforts to improve their situation including offering them jobs and safe haven.

But it is nothing proud, nationalistic, or condescending. It is doing the right thing in sad times.
