As a Chaozhou local, I’m definitely into beef balls. When President Xi Jinping walked past the stall of our restaurant, he asked me how much a serving of these beef balls cost. I told him it was 10 yuan ($1.39) per serving, and he said it was quite affordable.
One principle that Chaozhou has always adhered to is the improvement of public spaces, which in turn enhances improvements of private spaces. We have rebuilt qilou, restored paifang, renovated our facades and installed streetlights. Gradually, our young people will take over these old houses and turn them into inns and teahouses.
Just as President Xi Jinping said, Chaozhou is an important branch of the culture of Lingnan (a southern region in China with a distinctive cultural, historical and economic identity), which in turn is an important branch of the entire national culture. I will do my best to pass down this heritage from generation to generation.
