The Fairmont Peace Hotel, a landmark building on the Bund in Shanghai, has recently faced criticism from netizens. They complained that a 298 yuan group-buying deal only provides a glass of water and a piece of bread, which must be taken away as dining inside the hotel is not permitted.

According to the group-buying platform, the deal includes a tour of the Fairmont Peace Hotel Museum, lobby, restaurant, and other public areas, along with guided explanations. It also offers a choice between two options: one with a cocktail and jazz music appreciation, and the other with a piece of cake and a cup of coffee, both intended for takeout. Over 100 of these deals have already been sold.

In response to inquiries from a reporter, the hotel staff said that this offer has been available for over a year and has been selling well.

The Fairmont Peace Hotel also provides other group-buying options that focus on guided tours to better meet the interests of consumers keen on delving into Shanghai's history and exploring vintage items.

Some netizens have voiced concerns that the pricing is indeed too steep for average consumers.

Others view these expenditures as a means to immerse oneself in the ambiance and distinctiveness of this century-old Shanghai landmark.
