After the US Department of Justice released thousands of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in a tranche on Friday that included a number of decades-old photographs of US former president Bill Clinton, a spokesman for Clinton on Monday called on all of the files relating to Clinton to be released.

In a statement, Clinton spokesman Angel Ureña accused the DOJ of using the selective release of Epstein documents to imply wrongdoing where there is none, challenging the department to immediately release any remaining materials mentioning or showing Bill Clinton in the files.

Ureña wrote on Monday that the content and method of how the Department of Justice has released files makes it "clear" that “someone or something is being protected."

"We do not know whom, what or why," Ureña wrote. "But we do know this: We need no such protection.”

At a press conference on Monday that was mainly devoted to administration announcements on the building of new US Navy ships, Trump was asked about the Epstein files and pictures that possibly portray former president Bill Clinton in the files being released.

"I don't like pictures of Bill Clinton being shown. I don't like pictures of others being shown, it's a terrible thing," Trump said.

A law signed by US President Donald Trump in November required all the files related to federal investigations into the disgraced financier to be released by Friday, Dec 19. The department has been releasing files since that deadline, but did not fully meet that deadline in releasing all Epstein-related materials, and what has been released so far is a fraction of the files.

"The DOJ needs to quit protecting the rich, powerful, and politically connected," Representative Thomas Massie, a maverick conservative Republican from Kentucky, said in a posting on X.

On Monday, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer introduced legislation that would instruct Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican, to undertake "appropriate" legal steps to gain congressional access to all the documents covered by legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by Trump.

US Justice Department spokesman Chad Gilmartin said the agency "will continue to release thousands of pages of material, and no redactions will be made to protect any famous or politically sensitive people".
