A joint investigation team formed by Central South University and the Hunan Provincial Health Commission has released a statement regarding the death of a postgraduate student who reportedly fell into the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, Hunan province.
According to the statement released on Monday, the student, a 2023 graduate student surnamed Sun at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, was reported missing after leaving her dormitory at 9:57 pm on Saturday.
The university immediately organized a search and sought assistance from the police while maintaining contact with the student's family. At 11:26 pm the same night, the hospital received a police notice that an individual had reportedly fallen into the river near Orange Isle bridge. Professional rescue teams were immediately deployed.
The individual was recovered from the water at approximately 4:00 pm on Sunday and showed no signs of life, later being confirmed as the missing student.

The statement said authorities would assist the family with the subsequent arrangements. The joint investigation team stated it would conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident in accordance with relevant regulations and laws.
