The hashtag "Don't trust Doubao's wild mushroom identification" sparked online discussions on Friday, the same day Li Liang, vice-president of ByteDance, addressed an incident where the AI's misidentification nearly led to a Doubao user being poisoned.

According to Li, the user received an initial identification of coprinus comatus, commonly known as either the shaggy mane or lawyer's wig. The AI's response also explicitly warned that this species is easily confused with the highly poisonous chlorophyllum molybdites, or false parasol, which can cause severe gastroenteritis. The response strongly advised against eating wild-foraged mushrooms and added that image-based identification carries extreme risk.

Li emphasized that AI is still evolving and should only be used as a reference for safety-related matters, urging users to verify information through multiple sources. He also warned against consuming foraged plants from residential areas, as even non-toxic ones may be contaminated with pesticides.
