When a downpour hit Ningbo University's opening ceremony for the 2026 academic year on Friday, President Cai Ronggen scrapped his 3,300-character speech and spoke for just 40 seconds.
据宁波晚报、宁波大学消息，9月11日晚，宁波大学举行了2026级新生开学典礼。活动开始时，天上下起了雨，随后雨势时强时弱。师生都穿上了雨披。
Cai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told students: "I have three things to say. First, a line from Sailor goes, 'What's a little rain?' Last year's rain was much heavier than this. Second, welcome. Third, I wish you all to study hard and live well at Ningbo University." He added that he hopes this year's freshmen will build a solid foundation, pursue their dreams and become better versions of themselves.
The university later posted his full prepared address online.
公开资料显示，蔡荣根，1964年9月出生于浙江省杭州市，2017年当选中国科学院院士，2023年3月任宁波大学校长。他主要从事引力性质、黑洞物理、宇宙学和引力波物理等方面的研究。
宁波大学目前是国家“双一流”建设高校、省部市共建高校、浙江省首批重点建设高校、浙江省高水平大学建设高校。
