据南都报道，记者现场观察发现，公厕入口最右侧是男厕入口，悬挂“男厕所”标识。从该入口进入后，一侧为工作间，另一侧与潮汐厕所区域连通。在分隔铁门未关闭的情况下，潮汐厕所区域与常规男厕贯通一体。据了解，现场铁门为高峰期改造如厕区域的物理分隔设施，可实现男女如厕区域的临时转换。
报道指出，此次引发争议的核心问题，不仅是标识可随意拨动，更在于改动门槛极低。不少网友认为，普通游客均可随意改动标识，极易造成男女如厕区域混淆，甚至引发如厕混乱、隐私泄露等问题。
The restroom features a movable sign that can be slid left or right to change the male/female label. When a separating metal door is open, the tidal area merges with the regular men's restroom. Netizens argued that since anyone can alter the sign, it could easily cause confusion or privacy breaches.
针对网友热议的问题，景区客服最初称标识由工作人员专门操作、现场有专人引导，但记者走访后发现，标识仍可随意拨动，现场无人值守、无人引导。目前，涉事潮汐厕所的可拨动标识已全部撤除。
The scenic area initially said the sign was staff-operated with on-site guidance, but reporters found it could be moved freely with no one supervising. The movable signs have since been removed.
据惠州市人民政府新闻办公室“文明惠州”介绍，这套灵活的装置，是惠州西湖景区为应对重大节假日女性如厕排长队现象推出的微创新管理尝试，也是公共厕所从“依照标准建设”转向“跟随人流精细化管理”的一次本地实践。
收到网友的反馈建议后，景区已经撤下可滑动标牌，即将更换为固定卡槽式门牌，同时也将推出多项举措，改善节假日女性如厕排队久的难题。
根据惠州日报发布的视频显示，更换后的标牌设置在了厕所门的顶部。
According to the Huizhou city government, the flexible setup was a micro-innovation introduced to address long queues for women's restrooms during major holidays, representing a shift from standardized construction to dynamic, crowd-based management. Following public feedback, the scenic area has replaced the sliding signs with fixed slot-in door plates placed at the top of the restroom doors and plans further measures to ease holiday queuing.
评论区也有不少人表示，“潮汐厕所”在一些地方确实很有必要，景区的初衷是好的，应加强管理。
Similar tidal toilets have been piloted in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Chongqing and other places. At Heidushan scenic area in Qinghai province, women's peak waiting time dropped from over 30 minutes to under 10.
