A theft suspect in Yancheng, Jiangsu province, has been placed under administrative detention after a young police officer unexpectedly ran into him and detained him.
The officer, Zhu Jinwei, a young police officer from Xincheng police station in Jiangsu province, had been working until the early hours of Sept 12 when he realized he had skipped dinner. He and a colleague stopped at a nearby farmers' market, which caught Zhu's attention because Chen, a theft suspect he had been tracking, often bought egg pancakes there.
Zhu joked that if he ran into Chen, he would treat him to an egg pancake, a local specialty. As soon as the car stopped, he spotted a man dressed exactly like Chen standing at an egg pancake stall. "It's him. He didn't even change his clothes!" Zhu got out, confirmed the man's identity and detained him. Chen was then taken to the police station for questioning.
Since joining the force, Zhu has helped apprehend 296 fugitives and assisted nearly 100 other police units in solving 205 cases. He is also known for his anti-fraud work and appeared in a short drama series that was recognized as an outstanding case at a national police video showcase.
