A Chinese mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday that the mainland welcomes more of its actors taking part in cross-Strait youth exchanges, after a reporter asked whether two mainland actors could join such activities.
At a regular press conference in Beijing, Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, was asked about actor Zhang Linghe's appearance at the 18th Straits Forum in June, which drew attention from young people on both sides, and about the popularity in Taiwan of the mainland drama The Early Spring, whose leads Jing Boran and Sun Qian have also attracted Taiwan viewers. The reporter asked whether the two actors might have the chance to participate in cross-Strait youth exchange activities in the future.
Zhu said the three actors mentioned are themselves young people, so their participation in cross-Strait youth exchanges is only natural. She expressed hope for more opportunities for mainland and Taiwan young people in the entertainment industry to exchange and cooperate in various ways, integrate into the cross-Strait integrated development process and share the opportunities brought by Chinese-style modernization.
Earlier, on Sept 9, spokesman Chen Binhua responded to Taiwan viewers urging faster updates of The Early Spring, saying the office welcomes more film and television productions created through cross-Strait cooperation that showcase family bonds and quality life, adding that such works help foster emotional exchange between people on both sides of the Strait.
