“河南一技校101名毕业生入职北大”,引热议
A vocational college in Henan province has sent 101 graduates to work at Peking University, sparking widespread discussion about the value of skilled talent and changing employment models in higher education.
The electron microscopy technology program at Henan Chemical Technician College, the only one of its kind in China, has sent 496 graduates to top research platforms including Peking University, Zhejiang University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2012. Students are often recruited by employers as early as their second year.
This trend is not isolated. Guangdong Province Technician College has sent over a dozen students to Peking University labs, with some also joining Southern University of Science and Technology and Xiamen University.
At the WorldSkills Competition, Kuang Chuanfu shared his story. He joined a Peking University research group after graduating and has grown from an assistant technician into a project leader over seven years.
A professor at the lab said technician college graduates, trained with a project-oriented mindset, can deliver complete projects from scratch, while many undergraduate and graduate students struggle to do so independently.
Online debate focused on whether the graduates hold formal positions, with some arguing that solid skills matter more than employment form.
An education expert said fair pay and room to apply skills matter more than staffing status, and suggested universities include skilled technical staff in their title evaluation systems.
