A Chinese fitness influencer known as "Abeeeer" has had her partnership with Brooks China terminated and issued an apology after being found to have been carried on the back of a bicycle during the Berlin Marathon, in violation of race rules.

关于近期合作者参赛涉嫌违规事件的说明

Brooks China said in a statement on Sunday that it firmly opposes and will not tolerate any behavior that violates competition rules or the spirit of sportsmanship.

The brand said it had agreed to sponsor her participation in the Berlin Marathon and provide her with competition gear after learning about her training plan and race goals. After the race, although it reviewed her finishing result and related photos, videos and other materials, it failed to conduct a thorough review of her entire race, particularly her split times.

The company called this an oversight and apologized to runners, consumers and those who had followed the incident. It added that it would never work with her again.

In an earlier apology, the influencer acknowledged that being carried on the back of a bicycle during the marathon violated race rules and said she made no excuses for her actions.

She admitted that she deliberately concealed the incident when sharing her race experience afterward, calling it deeply dishonest and contrary to the spirit of fair competition. She said she felt deep remorse over what she had done.
