Legend has it that Huangdi,\x26nbsp;known as the Yellow Emperor, the legendary ancestor of the Chinese people, visited Kongtong Mountain three times to seek advice from Guangchengzi, a sage who lived in seclusion here.\x26nbsp;The legend has contributed to the mountain\x27s reputation as a sacred source of Taoism. Perched atop Mazong Mountain, the main peak, the Huangcheng architectural complex was first built during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) and largely rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is regarded as a gem of ancient Taoist architectural art.
