Shenzhen health authorities have criticized a prank in which several young people made a false emergency call to 120, China's emergency medical hotline, prompting an unnecessary response from paramedics. The incident, featured in a documentary, has sparked public criticism.
Footage shows emergency workers arriving near a food stall with life-saving equipment, only to find no patient. Paramedic Zhao Jianhua recalled that one young man apologized, claiming his phone had accidentally dialed 120, but appeared amused rather than remorseful.
Another woman in the group reportedly made a peace sign at the emergency responders. Zhao suspected the group had been celebrating winning a bet at the emergency workers' expense.

In less serious cases, the penalty may be detention of up to five days or a fine of up to 1,000 yuan.
