“越来越多人不接陌生电话”引热议,网友:一年365天静音……
A social media post about growing anxiety over answering calls from unfamiliar numbers has struck a chord with Chinese netizens, prompting discussion about why more people are choosing to ignore phone calls from unfamiliar numbers.
According to a report from People's Daily, a 2025 survey found that mobile users in China missed an average of 68 percent of calls from unfamiliar numbers each day. The rate rose to 76 percent among those aged 25 to 40, while 56.6 percent of respondents reported anxiety or hesitation about answering calls.
Cao Dagang, a psychotherapist affiliated with the National Health Commission and a senior psychology educator, identified three main reasons for this trend.
First, a phone call demands an immediate response. Callers must process information, formulate their thoughts and respond within seconds, which can create pressure. Instant messaging, by contrast, allows people to reply at their own pace.
Second, repeated exposure to sales pitches and scam calls has made people wary of unfamiliar numbers. For many working professionals, calls can also signal urgent tasks, unexpected problems or work-related demands. Over time, the ringing phone itself can become a source of stress.
Third, communication preferences have shifted from efficiency toward emotional comfort. While phone calls were once essential for long-distance communication, people now have more options. Video calls convey facial expressions and body language, while text messages, images and short videos allow emotions to unfold gradually, giving recipients time and space to absorb and process feelings of joy or sadness.
Ultimately, people are not rejecting unfamiliar calls altogether. They want a safer communication environment where answering the phone does not mean first questioning the caller's intentions or weighing the risks. If nuisance calls are effectively curbed and scammers kept at bay, more people may feel comfortable picking up and saying, "Hello".
