Kylian Mbappé has apologized over his erroneous remarks about China in an interview that sparked widespread criticism. The French forward released a statement on Tuesday, acknowledging that his comment was "ill-judged" and had hurt many people in China and Chinese communities around the world.

In his statement, Mbappé said: "During a recent interview, I reacted to an image of myself. My comment was ill-judged, and I now understand that it hurt many people in China and in Chinese communities around the world. I apologise to everyone my words have upset. This was absolutely not my intention. I have deep respect for the Chinese people and their history, and I am sincerely sorry."

西甲联盟发布致歉声明

10月27日，@LALIGA西甲联赛 发布官方声明：

LaLiga also issued an official statement on Tuesday, saying it "deeply regrets" the offense and hurt caused to Chinese fans. The league stressed that Mbappé's remarks were "the player's personal expression" and "in no way represent LaLiga's position". Within the scope of its responsibilities as the league's governing body, LaLiga apologized on behalf of the league and all its clubs.

The league said it "holds deep respect for China, relevant institutions and the Chinese people, and greatly values the attention and support of millions of Chinese fans every week".

LaLiga said it is working with Chinese partners and relevant institutions to properly handle the incident. It also said it will work with clubs and players to establish and implement cultural awareness and communication guidelines, in order to promote understanding and respect across cultures and prevent similar situations from happening again.
