Chinese actor Hu Ge said in an interview program that he now carries emergency heart medication, such as Suxiao Jiuxin pills, as well as an automated external defibrillator while working and traveling, after his health declined in his 40s and intense work took a toll.
take a toll 产生严重的负面影响
Hu spoke about mortality and loss. The episode was recorded on the day veteran performing artist You Benchang, whom Hu described as a mentor and friend, died; Hu was silent at times and visibly grief-stricken.
He said he had lost several friends this year, including two in the previous two months who died of heart attacks, one in his 50s and one the same age as him.
Hu traced part of the strain to his schedule. Last year he spent about seven months working on a plateau, and a checkup after returning home flagged problems, including heart discomfort.
He said recovery after all-night shoots is no longer what it once was, citing more than three years of filming Blossoms Shanghai, where roughly 60 percent to 70 percent of the shoots were at night, and his stamina was constantly overdrawn.
The experience prompted him to reflect on personal responsibility. He said everyone should be the first person responsible for their own life and health, rather than waiting for a problem before seeing a doctor.
At a stage when he was caring for aging parents and a young child, he added, only by taking care of himself can he care for his family.
On the program, he also took a blood lipid test and said he had quit smoking long ago. He compared health and life to a credit card: young people spend against it without thinking about repayment, but eventually the bill comes due.
Chest discomfort. This is one of the most common warning signs. Many patients feel pressure, tightness, or dull pain in the chest before a heart attack; the discomfort may last several minutes or recur.
Unlike severe pain, it is sometimes overlooked, especially when patients think it is tolerable or caused by another health problem. Such symptoms may worsen after activity or ease with rest.
Pain or discomfort in the upper body. Pain from a heart attack is not always confined to the chest; it may radiate to the shoulders, arms, back, neck, or jaw, especially on the left side.
Unlike acute severe pain, this spreading pain may present as dullness or soreness, and patients may mistake it for muscle strain or indigestion.
Shortness of breath. This is another important symptom. Before a heart attack, some people may feel breathless without obvious activity, or even need to exert themselves to breathe. It often accompanies chest discomfort and may worsen at rest, especially when lying flat.
Digestive discomfort. This is also a potential warning sign and is more common in female patients. It manifests as upper abdominal pain, nausea, heartburn, or vomiting and is easily confused with gastrointestinal disease, delaying medical care.
Sudden extreme fatigue or weakness. This also deserves attention. Many patients experience unexplained general exhaustion before a heart attack, feeling drained even after mild activity; the fatigue may last for several days.
Women in particular are more likely to experience unusual fatigue in the weeks before a heart attack, research shows.
Cold sweat, dizziness and palpitations. Such cold sweat often occurs together with emotional unease or a "sense of impending doom"; patients may feel extremely uncomfortable or even panicked.
Eat a balanced diet with less oil, salt, and sugar, and more vegetables and whole grains.
Exercise at a moderate intensity every week.
Control tobacco and limit alcohol.
Keep weight within a reasonable range.
Manage blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood sugar indicators.
Ensure adequate sleep and relieve long-term mental stress.
For people diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, taking medication as prescribed and regular follow-up visits are the fundamental way to protect heart health.
