A tip about adding an "electronic transfer receipt" to WeChat money transfers topped Chinese social media trending topics on Monday. Still, a lawyer says the resulting official electronic receipt is strong evidence, but not the only proof courts accept.
An internet user recommended requesting a certificate that displays the recipient's real name and carries WeChat Pay's official seal, describing it as a better alternative to screenshots, which are easy to alter or forge.
Chen Songtao, a lawyer at F&G Law Firm in Zhejiang province, said the certificate's probative value is high, but its role should not be overstated.
The stamped document is formal electronic data that was originally recognized under the Electronic Signature Law of the People's Republic of China. This is because it records both parties' real-name information, transaction time, amount, and transfer note, making it harder to tamper with than an ordinary screenshot.
Other materials can also be admitted, Chen said. Original WeChat transfer screenshots, complete and unedited screen recordings of bill records, and phone-based transaction records displayed in court all fall within the scope of electronic data under the Civil Procedure Law. Courts will accept them when they corroborate other evidence and form a complete chain.

添加转账说明：转账时务必点击“添加转账说明”，清楚备注转账用途。
申请电子凭证：待对方收款后，可以在“服务”里选择“钱包”，点击“账单”找到这笔转账的记录，点击左下角申请电子凭证，并选择展示对方的姓名。
留存证据效力：带有官方印章的电子凭证具有法律效力。如果是借钱或者转账被骗，这个备注加凭证就能派上用场了。
律师也进一步说明，仅靠电子凭证只能证明双方发生过资金往来，无法直接证明这笔钱是借款、货款还是赠与，必须搭配转账前后的聊天记录、催要记录等材料，锁定款项的实际用途，才能形成完整的证据链支撑诉讼主张。
Chen further noted that the certificate alone proves only that funds moved between the parties; it cannot directly establish whether the money was a loan, payment for goods, or a gift.
Chat records before and after the transfer, along with repayment reminders and demand records are needed to clarify the payment's purpose and complete the evidence chain.
律师建议，涉及微信资金往来的当事人，不要轻易删除手机里的原始微信聊天和交易记录，如果涉及开庭，开庭时建议携带原始载体当庭核验，这是电子证据被采信的核心前提。
He advises users not to delete original chats and transaction records from their phones, and to bring the original device to court for verification if a case goes to trial, as it's a key condition for electronic evidence to be admitted.
转账时明确备注款项性质，再申请带对方实名的电子凭证，是普通人成本最低、效果最好的留证方式，能大幅降低后续维权的举证难度。
