Fu Jian, director of a law firm in Henan province, said copyright protects original works. A short internet catchphrase, a name, or a brief sentence lacks originality and is not protected by the Copyright Law. However, directly clipping original footage from the show would infringe the producer's audiovisual copyright.

He also cited the Civil Code. Using the names "Li Na" and "Xu Fei" directly in commercial advertising, with an obvious commercial purpose, may constitute an infringement of their name rights.
The two celebrities enjoy commercialization rights over their names, and merchants must obtain authorization and pay appropriate endorsement or licensing fees if they want to use their names or images in advertisements or to promote products.

Fu added that the creative idea behind a purely online meme generally cannot be monopolized on its own, but when it is attached to variety-show clips or artists' personal identifiers, the relevant rights holders are entitled to take action to protect their rights.
