对于这个颜色的英文名，可能有人会感到疑惑了：为什么不是“cream yellow”？“butter”和“cream”到底有什么区别？

“butter”的英文解释为“a soft yellow food made from cream, used in cooking and for spreading on bread”，它是一种半固态（semi-solid）的乳制品，由搅拌过的奶油中的脂肪和蛋白质组成，

据史实，一些游牧民族在迁徙时会在马背上绑几袋牛奶，在旅途中，牛奶被不断搅拌（churn），变成了黄油。据说最早的黄油可以追溯到公元前8000年的古非洲。

“cream”则是“the thick white or pale yellow fatty liquid that rises to the top of milk”，就是说，将牛奶静置一段时间后，浮在上面的乳脂就是奶油。

严格说来，butter是淡黄色（pale-yellow），而cream是白色。所以“奶油黄”其实要比“黄油黄”更浅、更接近白色。
