The slogan "So Close, So Beautiful, Spend Your Weekends in Hebei" sparked controversy after reports surfaced that it was banned from being brought into National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest. The incident occurred during Singaporean singer JJ Lin's "JJ20 Final Lap" concert on Friday, drawing public attention. According to concertgoers, signage at the venue's entrance listed prohibited items, with the Hebei slogan marked with a red cross.

In response to inquiries, staff at the stadium's national service hotline clarified that the sign was not installed by the Bird's Nest itself but was located outside the venue, unrelated to the stadium's management. 

Reports indicate that the slogan has since been covered up. Over recent years, the Hebei tourism tagline has gained popularity on Chinese social media, evolving into a widely shared internet meme.

Thanks to coordinated promotion by Hebei authorities and enthusiastic residents, the slogan has been prominently displayed across major transport hubs nationwide—and in some unexpected places. From appearing on kites at the Weifang Kite Festival to popping up at concerts in Luoyang and Beijing, Hebei fans have turned into unofficial tourism ambassadors. Since its introduction in 2019, the slogan has coincided with remarkable growth in Hebei's tourism sector, with both visitor numbers and revenue rising by over 20 percent in 2024.
