Fans slam Lorenzo Musetti over 'ignorant' remarks during China Open clash

From: sportskeeda

Lorenzo Musetti is the latest tennis star to come under fire for his actions during the Asian swing. The Italian lashed out at the crowd for seemingly coughing too much during his opening-round encounter against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the China Open on Friday.

After dumping a forehand into the net during the second-set tie-break, Musetti appeared to gesture toward the fans and allegedly said in Italian: "Sti cazzo di cinesi... tossiscono sempre. Dai... ecco." This translates to: "Those damn Chinese... they're always coughing!"

Fans were quick to condemn his behaviour.

“Another day, another offensive thing about Chinese people," one fan on Reddit wrote. "Is it that hard to not be racist?”

“This is disgusting, the Chinese fans have been way more nice than the European crowds and this is what they get.”

Here is how other fans reacted to Musetti's behaviour at the China Open.

“The entitlement from these players is so crazy when the Chinese fans and organisers have been nothing but extremely passionate and welcoming towards them always,” one fan wrote.

“The amount of blatant racism in the last week and a half... Ignorant privileged bunch,” another added.

“Wow Musetti, you are officially shitlisted forever,” one X user commented.

“Can we have an Asian swing without a player being racist?? Gosh I'm so tired,” a third fan chimed in.

Earlier this month, US Open doubles finalist Taylor Townsend made disparaging comments about Chinese cuisine. She posted a video of dishes, including bullfrogs and turtles, and joked that she would need to call HR. She subsequently apologized for her remarks.

"Dear Chinese fans, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for the words I spoke yesterday out of frustration during my match. My words were directed only at a few individuals in the crowd who were constantly coughing and disrupting the game.

They were in no way aimed at the Chinese people. This happened in a moment of stress and tension during the second tie-break, but that is no excuse whatsoever.

I realize that the way I expressed myself was incorrect and inappropriate, and that it hurt many Chinese fans. I deeply regret it and feel great remorse.

I have always admired the Chinese people and sincerely appreciate playing in your country. I have been coming to China since 2018 and always feel very welcome here. I am grateful for the incredible support I constantly receive and for the many fans I have in China.

Once again, I am sincerely sorry. I deeply respect you, I feel at home here, and I appreciate the kindness you have always shown me. With respect and gratitude, Lorenzo," wrote Musetti on Instagram.

Fans slam Lorenzo Musetti over 'ignorant' remarks during China Open clash

From: sportskeeda

Lorenzo Musetti is the latest tennis star to come under fire for his actions during the Asian swing. The Italian lashed out at the crowd for seemingly coughing too much during his opening-round encounter against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the China Open on Friday.

slam

slam /slæm/ 1)表示“(使)重重撞上,(使)砰地关上”,英文解释为“to (cause to) move against a hard surface with force and usually a loud noise”举个🌰:The wind made the door/window slam (shut).

2)表示“严厉批评;猛烈抨击”,英文解释为“To slam someone or something means to criticize them very severely.”举个🌰:The famed filmmaker slammed the claims as "an outrageous lie."

But ByteDance will want to keep as much of its global presence as possible, especially with Mr Zhang under fire in China for selling out to the Yankees.

swing

作动词,swing /swɪŋ/ 表示“挥动(拳头或器物)打击”,英文解释为“to move an object or your fist in an attempt to hit something or someone”举个🌰:I swung (the bat) and missed.

1)作名词,表示“秋千”,英文解释为“a seat for swinging on, hung from above on ropes or chains”

2)表示“摆动;挥动;转动;强劲节奏”,英文解释为“a swinging movement or rhythm”举个🌰:He took a wild swing at the ball.

3)表示“改变;改变的程度”,英文解释为“a change from one opinion or situation to another; the amount by which sth changes”举个🌰:Voting showed a 25% swing to him.

3)表示“(常指向另一国家)倾销,甩卖”,英文解释为“to sell unwanted goods very cheaply, usually in other countries”

dump a forehand into the net的整体意思就是:(漫不经心或失误地)一记正手击球,把球打到了网里。

dump a backhand into the net(反手下网)

dump an easy volley into the net(一个简单的网前球打下网)

dump the ball into the net or long/wide(把球打下网或打出界)

hit a forehand into the net(中性描述,就是“打”下网)

push a forehand into the net(显得被动、犹豫,不敢发力)

fire a forehand into the net(虽然下网了,但强调的是发力很猛)

tie-break

tie-break / tie-breaker 表示“(当两队在比赛结束时打成平局而增加的)决胜局,加时赛,(网球)抢七局”,英文解释为“extra play at the end of a game when both teams have the same points, to decide who is the winner”

And I condemn these acts of violence, but I can't help you.
