夫妻吃菌中毒楼道互殴，“从十几楼打到27楼”，卫健委提醒

A couple in Kunming, Yunnan province, were safely taken to hospital after suffering severe hallucinations caused by wild mushroom poisoning, prompting their family to seek help from both emergency services and the police.

The Kunming Public Security Bureau's police received a call from a resident who said her sister and brother-in-law were behaving erratically after eating wild mushrooms. Concerned that medical personnel might need assistance handling the situation, she requested police support.

When officers arrived at the couple's apartment, they found no one inside. After contacting the caller, they learned that the pair had made their way to the 27th floor of the residential building.

Police later learned that the couple had cooked and eaten wild mushrooms at home the previous day and developed symptoms of poisoning that night. They sought treatment at a hospital but left before completing their intravenous therapy, believing they had recovered.

The following morning, both began experiencing vivid hallucinations. According to police, they believed burglars had broken into their apartment and claimed to have fought with the intruders before locking them inside. After leaving their home, the husband reportedly became convinced that his wife had transformed into a snake. The pair then got into a physical altercation and moved through the building from around the 10th floor to the 27th floor.

When officers located the couple, the husband was confused and incoherent. To avoid further agitation, police calmly persuaded them to come downstairs, where paramedics took over and transported them to a hospital for further treatment. Both later made a full recovery.

Health authorities in Yunnan remind the public that wild mushroom poisoning cases typically begin to increase in May and peak in July and August. Symptoms vary depending on the species involved and may not appear until several hours after consumption, sometimes taking up to 24 hours to develop. Common symptoms include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, agitation and hallucinations.

Authorities also urge the public not to pick, purchase or consume unfamiliar wild mushrooms. Consumers are advised to buy mushrooms only from reliable sources, cook them thoroughly, avoid mixing different varieties in a single meal and refrain from drinking alcohol while eating them.
