Actor Ming Dow has publicly thanked Shanghai traffic police and an auxiliary officer who helped recover his team member's lost handbag containing cash, personal documents, and a phone with 500GB of data, praising the incident as evidence of the country's strong public safety.
In a video posted on Friday, Ming Dow said he had sent a banner to the G60 Shanghai-Kunshan expressway public security checkpoint under the Songjiang traffic police detachment, and hoped to find the person who found the bag so he could thank them in person.
Police had not known the item was connected to the actor until they saw the video, and treated the handling as a routine daily matter.
The episode began on Oct 14, when Ming Dow and his team members drove from Shanghai to Hangzhou in Zhejiang province and stopped to rest at the Fengjing service area. About 15 minutes after they set off again, colleague Zhang Zhiming received a call from traffic police and realized the bag was missing.
According to the Songjiang Public Security Bureau, an auxiliary officer on routine patrol at the service area on the outbound side of the G60 around 3:30 pm on Oct 14 found a men's handbag and immediately handed it to police.
Police then checked its contents and used information queries to contact Zhang. Roughly an hour later, Zhang followed the location and route sent by police, retrieved the bag, and thanked them.
